My name is Esme and I am 10 years old. I like all things about computers from games to making games. I learnt about coding when I first played Minecraft because I wondered how someone had made the game then I learnt that it as coding.

Coding is basically computers. People use coding to set up computers and all games and software. Software is the instructions that tell a computer what to do. App makers use coding to program their software. Coding can be basic using websites like Scratch and Python but if someone wants to code properly it is very tricky.

I made a game on Scratch called Cat and Mouse. The cat chases the mouse and you have to try and steer the mouse away from the cat. You can see the instructions on the screen and then see how they tell the cat and mouse what to do.

Some schools use coding and my school started it a few years ago. Most schools use the website Scratch because its basic and most of the teachers learn along with the children because they have not learnt it before. Most kids who learn coding enjoy it but some people find it very fiddly and difficult, that’s why it’s good to start with something like Scratch.

When I grow up I would like to be a forensic scientist and that would use computers to analyse samples.
